Madonna: Number One
02/27/2006
Madonna has claimed the 12th UK Number One of her music career, with the
new single "Sorry".
"Sorry" is the pop superstar's second release from her current album,
"Confessions On A Dancefloor", and displaces Leo Sayer's re-released and
reworked "Thunder In My Heart" at the chart peak.
Twenty years after claiming Number One with "Into The Groove", Madonna lands
in the chart one place ahead of the highly-tipped Corinne Bailey Rae.
Bailey Rae, winner of the BBC's Sound Of 2006 survey, goes in at two with
"Put Your Records On", ahead of Westlife's "Amazing" at four and "Is It Just
Me" by The Darkness at eight.
The other new entries in the Top 20 come from former Blue star Simon Webbe,
with "After All This Time" at 16, Michael Jackson's re-released "Don't Stop
Til You Get Enough" at 17 and "Burning Benches" by Morning Runner at 20.
In the UK album charts, Jack Johnson sees a post-Brits surge in sales of his
debut "In Between Dreams", which jumps from six to one, overtaking "Whatever
People Say I Am That's What I'm Not" by the Arctic Monkeys.
The only other new entry in the UK album chart comes from Neil Diamond,
whose Rick Rubin produced comeback "12 Songs", lands at number five.
