Madonna at 50: I should be so lucky

It does my heart good to learn Madonna is turning 50 Saturday, for several reasons.
First I should admit, though, I have never owned a Madonna album or disc -- just not my thing.
But coming of age in the '80s, Madonna was part of everything.
My style was more rock/punk/New Wave than "Lucky Star," but everyone had a bit of Madonna in her (or his) style back then, be it big jewelry, leggings, frosted hair or perms. Plus, I absolutely loved "Desperately Seeking Susan," even if it was more because Aidan Quinn was in it.
An Associated Press writer is marking the pop goddess' half-century by looking back at Madonna's fashion sense. I use the word sense, but often it made no sense, really.
While girls and teens could duplicate the early Madonna look, the underwear-as-outerwear thing didn't exactly work in day-to-day situations and the geisha look is just too much fabric to haul along.
I say Madonna is at her best right now. Just check it out. She still has fans of all ages and has a bit of wisdom and class in the mix.
Yeah she gives me hope I can still get ripped arms and some rhythm by the time I turn 50.
